Viking bowling had another tremendous showing today at the Great Northwest Conference team tournament today. The format was six baker games, and going in we had high hopes of taking home the title. We also hoped to get our JV into the top four to earn a medal as well. Both goals were realized today, and I couldn’t be more proud of these boys.
The Varsity team got off to a great start, posting back to back 199 games. We missed a few spares in the third game that I thought we could have made, but salvaged a 171. The next game was where we really hit our stride, ripping off a 241 to open up a big lead. We finished with games of 185 and 224 to take home the championship by more than 200 pins over second place. We were really balanced today from the top of the order to the bottom. Everyone threw the ball really well and closed out the regular season just as I’d hoped.
The JV got off to a great start also. After games of 174 and 160, they were sitting fourth after two. They used games of 167 and 154 to move into the third spot with two games to go. 142 and 157 were their final two scores, and although they closed the gap on the second place team, they couldn’t quite reel them in. I’m really proud of these guys for stepping up and beating out 8 varsity teams from other schools.
At the conclusion of the tournament the conference handed out awards for the season.
